You can replace sounds but its not as simple.Īctually i like to be a bit limited with "real drums" libraries. With Kontakt libraries, you're locked into whatever sounds are included in that particular drumkit. QVprod wrote:Just to add, BFD and Superior Drummer have a bit more flexibility than the Kontakt options as you can mix and match kits. And if you purchase EZDrummer around Christmas they do a cross-grade special where you can get Superior for a fantastic price. Lots of great packs and kits for both Addictive and EZDrummer. Roots is fantastic and seems right up your alley but it is Superior Drummer. My advise is go and listen to the different packs.

Now that Reason can use VST, I am psyched to have all of these functioning except for the MIDI drag which will be available in a later upgrade to Reason. The Reggae kit is quite nice and I do recommend it.

I also own Toontrack's EZPlayer Pro which allows me to convert MIDI packs between formats so all of my Addictive MIDI packs are now compatible with EZDrummer and vice versa. The MIDI libraries are great for all three. And you can individual out the parts and add your own effects as you so desire. If you want complete control over your sounds, then Addictive and Superior are the way to go. I own and use EZdrummer, Superior Drummer, and Addictive Drummer. If you do go the Kontakt route I can recommend any (or all) of the Jazz Series 1 or Hotbox series found here, lovely sounding, top notch quality and very reasonable prices. You are right there are some stellar sounding Kontakt drum libraries around, the advantage with Kontakt of course is there's plenty else besides drums to choose from, although the drum libraries themselves vary in quality and how they are handled because it is not a specialist drum environment as found in the big 3 mentioned above. I have little experience with Addictive Drums so can't help much there, but all these three are considered as the 'Big Guns' as far as acoustic kit drumplers go and you are unlikely to go far wrong with any one of these. But now when a new world are opening, I look for something to expand the sound palette.ĭon't forget with Superior Drummer you can use all the EZX (EZ Drummer) libraries as well and its only more complicated than EZ if you want it to be.īFD3 is a completely different kettle of fish to the BFD ReFills aside from some of the sounds you cannot compare the amount of flexibility and control in the main program to the ReFills. I do think the Reason Drum 2 refill and the BFD refills and some Drumdrops are nice. I want to produce different styles as times goes, but as song writer myself, I am leasing towards sounds in the field of Reggae/Ska, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Afrobeat, World folk music, Blues, Country/Folk/Indiepop, some softer rock/pop/singer songwriter etc. Bur if any of you have more insight after using several, then pls share your thoughts and opinions. I have seen about Steven Slate Drums and Addictive Drums, and there is surely more options out there, but the above is what catch my eye and ear. I cannot buy several of these things above. So right now I am waiting on a possible NI sale, to go with the Kontakt road.

I know of Superior Drummer, but atm I would prefer the lighter and handier EZdrummer, as I only am on a laptop anyway.īut I have heard some lovely demo on the drums that comes in NI Komplete 11 (studio drummer and Abbey Road drums etc) plus a tons of good instruments, and also Drumdrops makes drumkits for Kontakt (as well as for BFD).

BFD3 really impress when I watch and listen to the demo.īut I do not yet have any E-drums to play on so it will be finger playing on midi keys.ĮZdrummer has a nice Reaggae ezx and an Indie % Folk ezx I would love to have, and I have seen a bundle price with 2 selectable ezx together with EZdrummer software for same price as BFD3 on sale, €160, although the EZ-bundle is not a sale, just a standard bundle. So I hesitate to double invest in that (although I know it´s different with the whole BFD software).
About €160 But I do have their two Refills for Reason already. Have been investigating a bit about getting some new sophisticated drums now when Reason get VST support.īFD3 are now on 50% sale.
